Christmas cards 2021

Dec 19, 2021 · Tags: Drawing Machine, Generative Design

The Christmas cards are generative artworks drawn by a custom pen plotter.
Each card's pattern is generated individually through software and marked with a unique number.

The pattern on the cards is inspired by 'ugly Christmas sweaters' and the less obtrusive version: nordic sweaters (DuckDuckGo Image Search).

Software

The postcards are divided into a 15x10 grid and a random number between 0 and 1 is assigned to each field in the grid.

Then one out of six basic shapes is placed on the grid based on the random value from before (e.g. if a field has the random number 0.2, a star is drawn.)

You can try generating a few patterns by clicking the button below:

Drawing robot

The robot that draws the postcards is a modified version of Lewi's drawing machine. It is basically a CNC machine.
