Estimer is a kind of weather forecast for highly frequented office supplies. This fictive system predicts the availability of Printers, coffee machines and other objects of daily use.

This concept was developed during the summer school course “Just Real Enough” at CIID in 2014. The goal of this course was to generate and validate ideas with the use of rapid prototypes.

Concept

Estimer assumes that human behaviour can be tracked by sensors – the coffee machine could count how often and when it's used, for example. From this data a computer can calculate a forecast (“the coffee machine is always occupied from 8:00 till 9:30”) and is able to propose an alternative (“the coffee machine on the second floor is available”).
